Service Action Proposal

Service Action Proposal: Next Steps

When I finished my service action proposal, I was asked to reflect on how the proposal impacted my leadership capabilities:

Reflect on what you learned about yourself as a relational leader during the semester as you planned your service action proposal. What were the areas of your project you saw as your relational leadership strengths? Your areas of growth? How do you need to continue developing as a relational leader in order to implement your proposed service activity in the spring? How can the Village help you achieve your leadership development goals in order to implement your proposed service activity in the spring? How does this development connect with your Strengths Talent Themes? Describe two concrete action steps you can take accomplish these leadership development needs in order to implement your proposed service activity in the spring. Finally, briefly describe your overall leadership philosophy you have developed throughout this project. Has it changed since the beginning of class? If so, how?

I have attached below my response to the prompt:

Service Action Proposal: Next Steps

Service Action Proposal Reflection

The final portion of the service action proposal is a reflection on the proposal development experience as a whole. The following questions has served as a guide to complete my reflection:

  1. Experience Examination:
    1. What feelings did you have developing this proposal? Was your experience different from what you expected? What struck you about that? How was that significant?
    2. Did your perspective about your selected area of service change? What impacted the way you view the issues you selected address in this process?
    3. In what ways did you use your Strengths Talent Themes? In what ways were your Strengths Talent Themes challenged?
  2. Learnings from the Proposal
    1. What seems to be the root cause of the issue/problem you selected?
    2. What contributes to the success of projects like yours? What hinders success?
    3. What key takeaways do you have from this process? How can you apply this learning as a Village member (ILC, suite, programs, etc.)?

Self-Reflection #3

Below is the prompt for the third self-reflection assignment in SLC 101:

For this reflection, identify a real-world issue about which you are passionate (eg. homelessness, education, nutrition, etc.). Then, write a minimum two-page reflection responding to the following questions: Describe the issue you are passionate about, and why you are personally drawn to this topic. How does this topic connect to your Ethical Philosophy Selector Results? To your most salient ethical framework(s)? In what ways do your Talent Themes show up in your issue, selector results, and/or ethical frameworks? What sources of power contribute to/impact this issue? How does this information inform you service action proposal? Why does this information matter for your proposal? How does Relational Leadership connect with social responsibility?

Self-Reflection #2

Here is the prompt for the second self-reflection assignment for SLC 101:

Think about an organization to which you have previously or currently belong. This could be a group or organization from high school or a group or organization from here at State (group project team, your suite, ILC, a club you joined, etc.). Write a reflection that describes the group (its purpose, members, goal, programs, etc.) and evaluates how that group either reflects or fails to reflect relational leadership. Additionally, you should provide your own thoughts about how it felt to be a part of the group and what, if anything, you would go back and do differently. Given your experience with this group, what observations do you have for developing your service action proposal? Your reflection should create a clear description of the group you belong/ed to, provide a detailed analysis of the ways in which it does or does not use relational leadership, and illustrate your own thoughts about being a member of that group as well as how you would use this knowledge for your service action proposal.
